Brussels, 19/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 19 October, the European Commission presented the European Parliament and European Council with seven new proposals for the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF). This aid - requested by several member states - is intended to help workers find new jobs and develop new skills when they have lost their jobs.
More exactly, the Commission is proposing: - aid of €1.3 million for 1,106 workers made redundant from 423 manufacturers of metal fabricated products which are located in Spain's Basque Country; - aid of €5.4 million for 1,350 workers made redundant by Sweden's car manufacturer Saab; - aid of €2.9 million for 1,416 workers made redundant by Nokia (telephony) in Romania; - aid of €5.3 million for 1,000 workers made redundant by Nokia in Finland; - aid of €1.3 million for 153 former workers at the provider of design and electronic manufacturing services, Flextronics, in Denmark; - aid of €2.6 million for 502 workers made redundant by ten motorcycle manufacturers in the region of Emilia Romagna in Italy; - aid of €5.2 million for 350 workers made redundant by enterprises providing social assistance in Styria in Austria.
This aid will only become effective once given the green lights of the Parliament and the Council. (OL/transl.fl)
