Brussels, 12/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is suggesting that anti-dumping measures be imposed on imports of china and porcelain from China.
Following a complaint in January 2012 by the European Ceramics Industry Association (Cerame-Unie), the Commission is planning to levy anti-dumping duty of between 17% and 58% on imports of chinaware and utensils from China. EU sources say this will be examined by the anti-dumping committee in mid-November. The duty would initially be a temporary measure.
Cerame-Unie says the share of Chinese chinaware on the European market has increased from 22% in 2004 to 67% last year and during the same period, EU production has seen its turnover fall by €650 million, with a loss of 10,000 jobs (30% of the industry). Chinaware from China is 70% cheaper than chinaware imported into the EU from other parts of the world. (EH/transl.fl)
