08/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - Corrigedum - The Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) is turning its efforts to the regions in transition. We wish to point out that, contrary to what was written in the article published on Friday 5 October (EUROPE 10703), the peripheral and maritime regions sound a note of warning relating to the allocations for regions in transition, introduced by the recent cohesion package. The countries that defend them are few in number and, during talks on the financial framework, those transition regions could be written off. Jean-Yves Le Drian, CPMR President and also France's Defence Minister and President of the Regional Council of Brittany, takes the view that the categories of regions that are more developed or in transition are being deprived of Community means to help them face the crisis. Budget Director General Hervé Jouanjean admits that “that is already a beginning which, in my view, will take us to the level of heads of state and government”. He remains optimistic, stating that there is every possibility that that is how it will unfold. The decision, he said, will be taken much later, when there is arbitration to be done. To the above precisions, we wish to add that, in the English version, it was erroneously stated that the multiannual financial framework was a “five-year budget plan”. This is, of course, is wrong as it is a seven-year plan. Also, we wish to reiterate, Jean-Yves Le Drian is Regional Councillor for Brittany and not “regional advisor”.
