Brussels, 04/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 3 October, the president of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Maryam Rajavi, called on “the EU, Catherine Ashton and European leaders”, to open “a new page” with the Iranian resistance by recognising it, after the United States removed it from their black list. At a conference in the European Parliament, she stressed that the time has also come for a new policy with regard to the Iranian regime - a tough policy, a policy which rejects indulgence with the religious dictatorship in power in Iran.
Rajavi reproaches Europe for - amongst other things - remaining silent on Iran's aid to the Syrian regime, and for the EU's passiveness with regard to the missile programme. She also asks how long the EU will watch the progress of the mullahs' atomic programme without saying anything, and questions the continued trade relations between European businesses and Iran in spite of the sanctions.
She adds that “there need be no doubt” that the Iranian regime will be overthrown by the people, and that the policy of the European countries and the US can slow down or accelerate the process.
Rajavi also called on the EU to put pressure on the Iraqi government to ensure the security of the members of the resistance in the Ashraf and Liberty camps, and she called for them to be given political refugee status which also respects their rights to sell their property and belongings before leaving the camp - goods valued at US$500 million.
