Andris Piebalgs attends UN General Assembly

Brussels, 24/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - In New York, where the General Assembly of the United Nations has opened for a week (24 September-28 September), there were plenty of subjects for Andris Piebalgs, the European Development Commissioner, who will have the opportunity to announce the EU's willingness to increase its support for agriculture and food security, if the developing countries which are the partners of the EU make this concern a priority of their strategies to reduce poverty. He will also present his vision of the post-2015 development objectives. The commissioner will be attending a meeting of the new alliance for food security and nutrition launched at the last G8 summit, a meeting of the high-level panel on the development objectives, of which he is a member, and various other events concerning the fight against HIV and AIDS, fragile states and the least-developed countries.
