Komorowski calls Kiev to choose between EU and Russia

Brussels, 21/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 20 September during a visit to Ukraine, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski urged Kiev to choose between a rapprochement of the country with the European Union - the choice he favours - and an accession to the customs union with Russia. “One thing is certain. It is impossible to achieve these two scenarios of integration at the same time”, he said, quoted by AFP. “A choice must be made. And it's Ukraine that must make it. Poland can help it”, he said to his counterpart, Victor Yanukovych. In Komorowski's opinion “the integration with the West and the European Union is the most useful because that means enormous chances for development in Ukraine” (our translation throughout). Komorowski also warned Yanukovych that the imprisonment of the former prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, risked preventing this rapprochement. (CG/transl.fl)
