Brussels, 06/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's transport committee has been presented with the draft report on the orientations of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), put together by co-rapporteurs Georgios Koumoutsakos (EPP, Greece) and Ismail Ertug (S&D, Germany). They talk of considerable improvements to the Commission's proposal, which was already commendable in their opinion, in order to better highlight the European added value of the TEN-T projects, and their alignment with the EUROPE 2020 strategy. They also insist on the involvement of regional and local authorities. “It's not possible to put a big project together without the mayor participating in the meetings!”, Ertug said. However, he warns against the temptation of including purely regional projects, which would be against the principle of European added value. The co-rapporteurs also ask to be included in the discussions with Croatia in order to be informed of the projects for the TEN-T. (MD/transl.fl)
