Brussels, 25/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - According to the specialist press, the standing committee on the food chain of the European Commission voted on 18 July in favour of reintroducing bone meal (or processed animal proteins) from non-ruminants in fish food.
Having delayed this vote several times, the member states have finally given the green light to the removal of this ban. The technical test which makes it possible to determine the origin of meal was also validated. The text is to be published at the end of the year, to enter into force on 1 June 2013. This reintroduction paves the way for the ban on processed animal proteins to be lifted for non-ruminant feed (pigs, poultry). (LC/transl.fl)
