Commission puts 74 TEN-T projects to EP

Brussels, 11/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 10 July, the European Commission submitted to the European Parliament transport and tourism committee (TRAN) the 74 projects selected following the annual call for tenders for European funding as part of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). €200 million will be allocated to these projects; more than half of which will go to projects already paving the way for the new TEN-T corridors and also the Connecting Europe Facility to ensure continuity in the medium term. The 74 projects selected, from 138 entered, all meet strict criteria (performance, European added value, completion date) and chime with the five priorities established by the Commission: speeding up implementation of TEN-T projects (€100 million), long-term support for setting up the trans-European transport network and its corridors (€25 million), support for innovatively funded projects, such as the Connecting Europe Facility, public-private partnerships and bonds (€25 million), promotion of an integrated, multi-modal transport system (€25 million) and adjustment to climate change (€25 million). MEPs were happy with the selection made by the Commission but wanted more information on links with the Connecting Europe Facility and bonds. Jean-Eric Paquet, Director at DG Move, stressed that it was mainly about preparing the way so as to be able to call on these financial instruments, ahead of the next financial planning period from 2014 to 2020. The Commission will present the 74 projects to member states on Thursday 12 July. Member states are likely, despite expected comments, to accept the Commission's selection, as they have done in the last five years. (MD/transl.rt)
