Brussels, 04/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - Technical discussions on Iran's nuclear programme, which were organised in Istanbul on 3 July with Western experts from the E3+3 (Germany, France, United Kingdom, China, Russia and the US) and Iranian experts, lasted the whole day and finished at one o'clock in the morning, according to an announcement made by the spokesman for the EU high representative on Wednesday 4 July.
According to the spokesman, these discussions allowed the E3+3, headed by the nuclear expert Stephan Klement (acting on behalf of the high representative) to provide further details of the E3+3 proposal given to Iran in Baghdad and for Iran to share further details of their proposal. The experts explored positions on a number of technical subjects.
As agreed when High Representative/Vice-President Catherine Ashton and the E3+3 political directors met with Said Jalili in Moscow in June, this technical meeting will be followed by a meeting between Ashton's deputy, Helga Schmid, and her Iranian counterpart, Ali Bagheri. The place and date of the meeting still needs to be confirmed, Ashton's spokesman told Agence Europe. (CG/transl.fl)
