30/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - Satellite navigation market has wind in its sails. On 29 May, the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA) published a report that encouraged development of the satellite navigation market. The market is experiencing rapid growth, with an annual average growth rate of 13%, which will continue until 2016. Market saturation is forecast for later in the decade and growth is expected to subsequently stabilise. Although global orders for equipment using GNSS will remain lower than forecast until 2015, the number of these apparatuses will continue to increase up to 1.1 billion units a year. Market penetration is expected to experience a sharp increase in the smart phone market, which will increase from now until 2020 by between 30%-100%. The market, however, remains dominated by road use and geo-identification services (LBS - location based services). (MD/transl.fl)
