Ashton reports on discussions with Iran

Brussels, 09/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative Catherine Ashton has travelled to Jerusalem (Israel) on an unannounced visit to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. At the meeting, also attended by Deputy President Shaul Mofaz and Defence Minister Ehud Barak, Ashton discussed Iran and the forthcoming talks on that country's nuclear programme in Baghdad on 23 May, an Israeli spokesman announced on Wednesday 9 May. He said that Israel had set out its positions in the run-up to the next round of 5+1 group (France, United Kingdom, China, United States, Russia and Germany) talks.

The Israelis would like to see agreements on all enrichment of uranium, the removal from Iran of all material already enriched and the dismantling of underground installations near Qom, with a detailed timetable for implementation, the spokesman said. (CG/transl.rt)
