Brussels, 09/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - In a speech delivered at the Republica conference in Berlin on 4 May which attracted numerous bloggers, Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes sought to provide reassurance on the ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement). With the agreement supported by Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht creating increasing controversy among internet users, Kroes encouraged them not to give up the fight, saying: “We are likely to be in a world without SOPA (Stop online Piracy Act) and without ACTA … Now we need to find solutions to make the internet a place of freedom, openness and innovation”. The commissioner's spokesman, Ryan Heath, said that, while Kroes did not say that the ACTA was dead and buried, she clearly was reflecting political reality. (IL/transl.rt)
