Brussels, 02/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - The 47 European ministers involved in the Bologna strategy, meeting on 26-27 April in Bucharest, laid the foundations to continue the process for the reform of higher education in Europe (see EUROPE 10602 and 10603). They adopted a number of key priorities for the strategy to be pursued over the next three years. Here are the most important points:
Political roadmap for the European Higher Education Area in 2012-2015: three objectives are included in this roadmap - guaranteeing quality education for more students, equipping students with more employable skills, and increasing student mobility.
European strategy for mobility: the 47 delegations adopted a European strategy to increase student mobility, with the aim of achieving at least 20% of graduates completing a study or training period abroad.
European collaboration on higher education: a report which highlights the reforms carried out as part of the Bologna process stressed the remarkable results achieved over the last decade, but these reforms must be broadened. “Future jobs are going to require people with more and better skills. To be competitive on the world stage we need to pursue a common agenda of reforms across Europe to compete in the global knowledge economy (…). We must not miss this opportunity”, said European Education Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou. (IL/transl.fl)
