12/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns executions. On Tuesday 10 April, the EU Missions to Jerusalem and Ramallah condemned the execution of three people by Hamas in Gaza on Saturday 7 April. “The de facto authorities in Gaza must refrain from carrying out any executions of prisoners and comply with the de facto moratorium on executions put in place by the Palestinian Authority”, the Missions state. They repeated the EU's “firm opposition” under all circumstances to the use of capital punishment. The EU, they say, considers capital punishment to be “cruel and inhuman”, representing “an unacceptable denial of human dignity and integrity”. Hamas announced that it had hanged a Palestinian alleged to have “collaborated” with Israel and two men for premeditated killings. (CG/transl.rt)
