11/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - Ashton delighted with High Commission for Human Rights' constitution. On Tuesday 10 April, the high representative “warmly welcomed” the Iraqi Parliament's appointment of members of the Independent High Commission for Human Rights. The high representative's spokesperson stated: As the first independent institution of its kind in Iraq, the Independent High Commission for Human Rights will be expected to play an important role in promoting human rights in Iraq, and in helping to ensure that any reports of human rights violations are properly investigated.” Catherine Ashton is encouraging the Iraqi authorities to ensure that the Independent High Commission for Human Rights “receives all necessary support that will enable it to begin its work”.
