Oil exports halted to EU countries

Brussels, 11/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - Iran has stopped exporting to Germany, following identical measure taken against France and the United Kingdom. It is also planning on stopping exports to Italy. These developments were reported on the Arabic Al-Alam TV channel.

The Islamic Republic of Iran also decided to sanction 100 European companies and imposed a ban on imports of their products in response to illegal and unilateral European Union sanctions, added Al-Alam, quoting a well-informed source.

In addition to Greece, Tehran has now added Spain to its list of countries that will no longer receive oil exports. This decision was made on Tuesday 10 April, according to Iranian media sources. According to the spokesperson for the Spanish foreign affairs department, Spain has not imported oil from Iran since the end of February. In 2011, however, oil from the country accounted for more than 14% of Spain's oil imports. According to Iranian media channels, Iran was also considering halting sales to Germany and Italy. On 19 February, Iran suspended its exports to France and the United Kingdom. These decisions are the country's response to the decision made on 24 January by member states to impose an oil embargo as from 1 July. (CG/transl.fl)
