Brussels, 27/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - While the number of passengers in airports continues to grow (by 4.8% in 2011 according to the European Regions Airline Association), MEPs in the parliamentary committee on transport and tourism (TRAN) adopted a draft report to govern practices associated with regional airports, which are more often than not used by low-cost airlines. MEPs trust in particular that there will be greater transparency in prices announced for flights. Philip Bradbourn (ECR, UK), the rapporteur, deplores in his paper the single bag rule and hidden costs that bump up the price of flights when booked on line by credit card. Bradbourne also calls for regional airports to be integrated in the central network of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), for security costs to be borne by the airports, and for it to be possible to obtain multimodal tickets (mainly rail/air).
