Brussels, 20/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - Gérard Collomb, the president of the greater Lyons area (le Grand Lyon), and Philippe de Fontaine Vive, who is vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB), signed the second part of a contract, on Monday 19 March, in favour of renovation work in the greater Lyons area, amounting to €150 million.
The total amount of the contract is €300 million, €100 million of which was made available last year. The remaining €50 million will be signed up for in 2013. In practical terms, the financial commitment will allow urban transport infrastructure projects and more “gentle” transport means (walking, cycling) to be financed in the greater Lyons area through: - redevelopment of the banks of the Jonage Canal, development of the “Zone 30”, upgrading of Rue Garibaldi, the Schuman bridge, and Avenue Mermoz. European funding meets a dual objective - it should not only improve transport management and road safety but also reduce car traffic and enhance heritage and natural sites. (OL/transl.jl)
