Consultation on Single European Sky

Brussels, 19/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - The Commission will be looking at comments made by the public for improving the second period of the performance system set up to implement the single European sky. A public consultation has been opened until June as an adjunct to the opinions of Eurocontrol, the body responsible for assessing performance.

The first period began in January this year for three years. It will particularly focus on en route air navigation services. The performance system is due to be revised for the next period beginning on 1 January 2015, in order to improve and strengthen it and to set out objectives in the four key performance areas - safety, delays, cost effectiveness and flight efficiency.

The consultation will focus on this revision and seek an external insight on performance and additional fees. The comments made through the consultation will help develop the Commission's rethink and its finalisation of performance and pricing systems, which will continue in 2012 and be adopted in 2013. Its final year will be 2014, which will focus on the setting up, assessment and adoption of performance plans for the second period. (MD/transl.fl)
