Brussels, 15/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, two Front de Gauche (GUE/NGL Group) MEPS, Jacky Henin and Younous Omarjee (France), criticise the Bologna Process which, they argue, does not meet the aspirations of the university community and population. In the report adopted in plenary session the previous day, they slam the development of common courses between universities and business, which have hitherto led only to a rapid shift towards vocational training and education and over-specialisation, with no jobs at the end, harmonisation of university standards rather than preservation of the diversity of teaching and learning methods in Europe, and a lessening of the responsibility of the state in matters educations when free, public, secular education should be promoted.
