On the sidelines of the European Council, in Brussels on Friday 2 March, French President Nicolas Sarkozy stated that his preferred energy policy choices were energy efficiency and nuclear power. “The price of oil is on the rise due to tension in a number of producer countries such as Iran, whose oil we have decided to stop buying, and the fact that the increasing scarcity of supply is also creating tension - but we are working on it. You all know France's position. The biggest source of energy available comes from energy efficiency.
