23/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - Accompanying Somalia in its efforts to overcome chaos and insecurity - that is the aim of the international conference on Somalia which opened in London on Thursday 23 February (see EUROPE 10559). David Cameron, British Prime Minister, sees the conference as an unprecedented opportunity to bring about change in a stateless country, saying: “These problems (in Somalia) don't just affect Somalia. They affect us all.” The EU will be announcing its readiness to step up its aid to Somalia as long as there is indeed change in political and security planning. It is ready to deploy additional resources to fund the increased needs of AMISOM. The day before the conference, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution which increased the size of the African force from 12,000 to 17,731. (AN/transl.jl)
