06/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - Ashton sends call to FARC. On Friday 3 February, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton repeated her call to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and “other illegal groups” to put an end to violence and to listen to the demands of the Colombian people for “sustainable peace in the country, with democracy and full respect of human rights”, following the recent terrorist attacks in the towns of Tumaco and Villa Rica which claimed at least 18 lives and injured almost 80 people. “Such unprovoked violence is unacceptable”, Ashton said, making clear her concern that the FARC may have joined with criminal groups in these attacks. “The FARC have a choice between contributing to peace and sliding into criminality”, she added.
