Brussels, 03/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 3 February, Bosnia and Herzegovina passed two laws crucial for the resumption of its journey towards EU membership, in line with a recent agreement among local political leaders. The two houses of parliament adopted the law on the census survey of the population and the law on public aid (subsidies) on which the EU had insisted. Adoption of these laws was among the conditions set by the Commission for accepting the application by Bosnia and Herzegovina to be granted the status of candidate for EU accession. To be able to submit such an application, the country will have to engage in a process to amend its constitution, which the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled to be discriminatory towards the Jewish and Roma minorities.
