31/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - Murder of Syrian Arab Red Crescent secretary general is condemned. The EU delegation, in agreement with the heads of mission in Syria, has condemned the murder of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent secretary general, Dr Abd-al-Razzaq Jbeiro, and called for a full investigation into his death. It also calls for those guilty of the act to be brought to justice. The delegation states humanitarian workers must be respected as should all those seeking to assist their fellow citizens in need. It supports the protection of all medical installations whether professional or voluntary, and advocates that safe access to medical care be guaranteed and facilitated for all those who need it, without discrimination of any kind. Jbeiro was killed on 25 January when travelling in a vehicle clearly marked as a vehicle of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. (CG/transl.jl)
