27/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - Oettinger wants EU electricity grid to be expanded to Turkey and Georgia. EU Energy Commissioner Oettinger will be meeting the prime minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, in Davos at the weekend at the World Economic Forum, and says that extending the EU's electricity grid to Georgia and Turkey is a crucial component of EU energy cooperation with Georgia. He said on Georgian television on 27 January that Georgia was a major transit country for the region and therefore the EU wants to cooperate with the country in order to set up a unified electricity grid linking up Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria, to the benefit of all. Georgia is currently building a 400 kilo-watt electricity transmission line with Turkey. (EH/transl.fl)
