Brussels, 18/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - The US says it is prepared to follow the European initiative on establishing a code of conduct for space. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared on 17 January that the US had decided to join the EU and other countries in developing a code of conduct for space activities. An information note from the US government's State Department explained that because the EU already has a code of conduct on space activities, the US considers that this would be a good basis for developing an international non-legally binding code of conduct. In her press statement, Clinton explained that the space environment is in danger due to specific debris and irresponsible actors, and that without action by the international community, space could become increasingly dangerous for manned flights and satellite systems.
