09/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - EIB support for environmentally friendly packaging in Poland. On 21 December, the European Investment Bank (EIB) decided to lend €150 million to the Stora Enso group to fund the construction, commissioning and operation of a factory to produce packaging cardboard, with an annual capacity of 440,000 tonnes, located in Ostroleka, 120 km north-east of Warsaw. The activity of the new containerboard plant will be based wholly on the use of recycled fibre as a raw material for packaging applications. The work to be carried out under the project is underway and commercial operations are due to begin in early 2013. The EIB loan will help to promote an increase in paper collection rates and greater utilisation of waste paper in Poland, and therefore to reduce the volume of paper destined for landfill and encourage further improvements in the paper collection system.
