Priorities of the Danish Presidency

Brussels, 04/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - The priorities of the Danish Presidency of the EU Council regarding information technology and communication will focus on pursuit of digital strategy objectives. The main objective of the Digital Agenda is to generate innovation and growth through the creation of a single digital market based on broadband internet and interoperable applications.

In order to encourage crossborder online purchases and reassure consumers, efforts will continue to be made to improve and harmonise the rights of consumers and users, as well as the conditions for use of communication media. Work under the new presidency will also focus on bringing down the cost of access to the internet and to mobile telephony with a view to strengthening competition on European telecommunications markets.

The security of online activity, the availability of radio frequencies and digital services within the single market are also dossiers on which the Danish Presidency will focus. (I.L./transl.jl)
