19/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - 2050 roadmap, Austria presses for an end to use of nuclear power in Europe. Austria has reacted sharply to the Energy Roadmap 2050 unveiled by Commissioner Günther Oettinger on 16 December. The roadmap provides for greater use of nuclear power. While clearly the EU had to take steps to secure its energy supply - steps that complied with its climate protection targets - nuclear energy must be rejected, Austrian Environment Minister Nikolaus Berlakovich is reported by the APA agency as stating. “Nuclear power is not a form of sustainable energy. This must be taken into consideration especially after the Fukushima-disaster. Europe must go into a Triple-E direction: energy saving, energy efficiency, and renewable energy”, argued Berlakovich.
