13/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - Ashton congratulates Fatou Bensouda on her appointment as next Prosecutor of the ICC. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton, speaking on Tuesday 13 December, welcomed the election of Fatou Besouda as next Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and congratulated her on her appointment by the Assembly of the State Parties of the Rome Statute of the ICC in New York on 12 December. Ashton also expressed the EU's “sincere gratitude” to the out-going prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo “for his dedication and commitment to the work of the Court”. “The European Union is and remains committed to supporting the Court in its endeavours in the fight against impunity of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community”, she noted.
