Brussels, 28/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 28 November, the European Commission adopted the second part of the regional action programme 2011 for the Eastern Partnership. This programme, which has a budgetary envelope of €62.5 million, is of interest to “relevant sectors” throughout the region: territorial cooperation, integrated border management, climate change, transport and youth. “It is only by working together - at international and regional level and with civil society - that we will be able to meet the challenges faced by the whole region. I urge all countries of the Eastern Partnership to work together to reinforce cooperation in the key policy areas. Today's support is a further step in that direction”, stressed the commissioner with responsibility for the neighbourhood policy, Stefan Füle.
Amongst other things, the actions of the programme will concern aid to manage the borders between Ukraine and Belarus and between Ukraine and Moldova, territorial cooperation programmes between the border regions in the countries of the Eastern Partnership, regional cooperation in the field of youth employment, promoting improved climate change policies in the neighbouring regions and in Russia and providing technical support to improve connections between the trans-European transport network and the eastern neighbourhood.
