Ashton hails work on free trade deal and visa facilitation

Brussels, 18/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Catherine Ashton announced on Thursday 17 November 2011 that progress had been made in talks between the EU and Armenia and further progress could be made in coming months about a free trade deal between the two parties. Speaking after talks with foreign minister Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan, she said the EU would “now be looking to how much we can do together. This relationship is not just about money, it's also about the kind of cooperation and the way in which we can work together. So, for example, with the free trade agreement it will be the opportunities we offer our businesses to collaborate. It's going to make a huge difference”.

Catherine Ashton made reassuring noises about visa facilitation, saying that the technical phase was often the toughest part: “I'm confident that we're now at the phase when we'll see significant movement shortly, but it is for the technical people to finish their work first”. (CG/transl.fl)
