Brussels, 18/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 18 November 2011, the European Commission launched a website about migrating to the EU, giving practical information to people from non-EU countries wanting to come and live in the EU27 and for immigrants already living in one member state but wanting to move to a different member state. It provides information about how each category of immigrant must proceed to obtain a work permit, bring the rest of their family over, find out about
their rights and raise awareness about the dangers of illegal immigration, explains the Commission in a press release. The website has links to government websites in the Member States and NGOs working with immigrants.
The website is in both English and French (http://ec.europa.eu/immigration/ ) and a Spanish and Arabic version are being prepared. Last year, some 20.1 million people from non-EU countries were living in the EU, and Schengen States issued more than 11 million visas. (SP/transl.fl)
