Brussels, 31/10/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 28 October, the European Commission cleared the proposed acquisition of NEM Holding B.V., a Dutch-based supplier of heat recovery steam generators for industrial and utility applications, by the German industrial group, Siemens (electricity, electronics, energy and healthcare). Among other things, Siemens supplies combined cycle power plants that use heat recovery steam generators such as the ones produced by NEM. In its investigation, the Commission was able to establish that, given the relatively limited market shares of the two companies and the considerable amount of unused capacity on the market for heat recovery steam generators, there is still room on the market for a number of strong competitors at both levels of the supply chain. The Commission therefore concluded that the merger, which had been notified to it on 23 September, would not significantly affect competition within the European Economic Area. (FG/transl.jl)
