Brussels, 27/10/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 26 October, Israeli and Palestinian negotiators agreed to present detailed proposals on territories and security in the three months following separate meetings in Jerusalem with envoys of the Quartet and the Quartet representative, Tony Blair. Blair is to begin implementation of the Quartet declaration of 23 September. The Quartet envoys will regularly meet with negotiators from Israel and Palestine during the next 90 days to take stock of progress made.
Israelis and Palestinians “expressed their readiness to engage with the Quartet, on the basis of its statement of 23 September, to overcome the current obstacles and resume direct bilateral negotiations without delay or preconditions”, a Quartet press release states. Quartet representatives have also called on the parties to “refrain from provocative actions if negotiations are to be effective”. In its declaration of 23 September, the Quartet calls for direct talks to be resumed, without delay or preconditions, in order to reach a final agreement by end 2012. (CG/transl.jl)
