Brussels, 05/10/2011 (Agence Europe) - The decision to provide European protection was unanimously approved on Tuesday 4 October during a joint session of the parliamentary committees in charge of women's rights and gender equality (FEMM) and civil liberties, justice and home affairs (LIBE). This vote follows a compromise obtained at the end of September between the Council of Ministers and Parliament, with the Commission's assent also being granted (EUROPE 10459). The decision to provide European protection will mean that victims will be protected against criminality throughout the European Union. A decision to grant European protection may be made when the person already benefits from protection in one member state but decides to visit or reside in another member state. (MD/transl.fl)
