Brussels, 22/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - According to the most recent statistics from EURid, the independent non-profit-making body responsible for the “.eu” domain name, 84% of requests for European domain name registration come from individuals or bodies based in the European Union. Furthermore, 66% of those making the requests register the domain name in registration offices in the European country where they are based. According to EURid, those making the requests prefer to register the domain name locally, due to this being easier at a linguistic level and the fact that this is quicker. This is above all the case in Germany, Lithuania and Poland. Those with domain names in the United Kingdom, however, prefer to contact non-European registration offices, particularly in the US or Canada. The industry responsible for the “.eu” domain name is in fact international and local branches exist throughout the world. Many of those owning a “.eu” domain name based in Austria, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom also make their requests to German offices, EURid explains. (IL/transl.fl)
