Brussels, 13/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton began a two-day visit to Egypt on Monday 12 September. She met Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr during her visit. In a press release of her remarks during their meeting, Ashton said she had expressed the “wish of the European Union to continue to work with Egypt, while of course it is for Egypt to determine its future”. Bernardino Leon, EU Special Representative for the southern Mediterranean region, has already made two visits to Egypt.
Also in her press release, Ashton states: “We discussed today the effort that we're putting into making sure that we deliver the kind of support that will make a big difference for the Egyptian people. And that's not just for the short term. It's also thinking about the medium and long term, because where the European institutions can really offer help is in being with you for a long time to come”. Furthermore the EU high representative denounced the attack against the Israeli Embassy in Cairo. (C-C.G./transl.jl)
