Brussels, 13/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - Sudan and South Sudan will receive a further €40 million in humanitarian aid. On 12 September, the European Commission confirmed that additional aid would be granted from the EU budget reserve for emergency humanitarian aid.
The transfer of funding had been approved without debate by the Council that same day. The European Parliament, the second pillar of the EU's budgetary authority, had already given its approval.
€25 million are earmarked for humanitarian aid and €15 million for food aid to the most vulnerable populations.
In total, €100 million has been made available for humanitarian aid to date for Sudan and South Sudan, which has been independent since 9 July. (A.N./transl.jl)
