Brussels, 12/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - EuroMed experts will meet in Rabat (Morocco) on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 September to prepare the ministerial meeting on sustainable urban development. The goal is to promote a common culture in terms of the main challenges of urban development in the Mediterranean. The meeting will seek to chart the way towards improved governance and possible sources of funding for projects. Ministers will meet at a date still to be decided to discuss the meeting's recommendations. Discussion among the experts will focus on controlling urban growth in the southern Mediterranean by 2030, preserving historic centres while ensuring urban renewal, sharing best practice and experience of urban development schemes, and, finally, the funding of innovative sustainable urban projects. Among those expected to attend the meeting is the president of ARLEM (Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly) which is jointly chaired by the Committee of the Regions (CoR). (F.B./transl.rt)
