12/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - 10 years after 11 September “our societies have become stronger”. By adopting conclusions on the fight against terrorism on Monday 12 September, the Council of Ministers of the EU declared that 10 years after the events of 11 September 2001, “rather than weakening us, our societies have become stronger and have shown a remarkable capacity of resistance”. The Council also considers that by activating the different processes for democratic reform, the people behind the Arab spring “have undermined the thesis put forward by the terrorists that change can only be achieved by violence”. The Council is determined to support efforts undertaken to enhance the means for fighting against terrorism, particularly in Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Yemen, the Horn of Africa, Central Asia, South-East Asia and the Sahel, as well as other regions in the world requiring particular attention, given the threat of terrorism.
