Brussels, 31/08/2011 (Agence Europe) - On 30 August, the European Commission presented a proposed regulation clarifying certain provisions of the Community code on visas regarding an exemption from visa obligations during airport transit periods, for the holders of a valid travel document issued by certain countries. The previous regulation, which has been in force since April 2010, contained certain passages which were very unclear for the countries in question, which is why the Commission has made the changes. The published proposal for a regulation, it explains, aims to clarify the fact that “nationals of third countries holding a valid visa or travel document issued by a member state not fully applying the common visa policy must be covered by the exemption from visa obligation”, and that “the visa obligation exemption covers holders of a valid visa when they are travelling to the third country which issued the visa, to any other third country, and when they are returning from the third country which issued the visa, once they have used it”.
