The spokesman for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton made this statement on Tuesday 20 July: “The high representative firmly condemns the attack on the residence of President Alpha Condé which took place last night. Since 2008, Guinea has made great progress in the transition to constitutional order and democracy. The high representative calls on all institutional and political players, including the army and the security forces, to defend what has been achieved by the transition process and to work for the stability of Guinea. The European Union stands side by side with the Guinean authorities in their efforts to promote the wellbeing of the Guinean people”. (G.B./transl.rt)
