Brussels, 30/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission will proceed to a simplification of education and training programmes and propose a simplified structure to avoid any fragmentation with regard to obtaining the objectives and greater efficiency. Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou announced this initiative to MEPs from the education and culture committee of the European Parliament on 15 June (EUROPE 10399). The new comprehensive programme has three priorities. First of all, it seeks to support education mobility by guaranteeing strict conditions for quality mobility by focusing on key objectives where critical mass can be attained and complemented by other European programmes. Such an objective will bring very high added value to the European Union. In second place, it seeks to increase cooperation between educational establishments and the world of work, in an effort to promote greater modernisation in education, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship. Thirdly, it seeks to provide political support for guaranteeing efficient investments in education and helping member states to implement efficient policies. Some of the new initiatives envisaged by the Commission include an expansion in the Erasmus programme, which also covers masters programmes. (I.L./transl.fl)
