Brussels, 30/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European satellite navigation programme, Galileo, will have a €7 billion budget as part of the budgetary framework for 2014-2020, which will allow 30 satellites to be placed in orbit and for this major project to be completed within the above timeframe, European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani announced in Brussels on Wednesday 29 June.
Tajani said that, once Galileo becomes fully operational, it will be possible to make savings of up to €90 billion. Key European groups such as Thales, Alenia Space and Telespazio are participating in the realisation of this European satellite system, which rivals the US GPS system and its Russian counterpart, Glonass.
