28/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - Russia resumes imports of vegetables from the Netherlands and Belgium. Russian health services announced on Tuesday 28 June that Russian imports of vegetables from the Netherlands and Belgium would be resuming that same day. Vegetables from these two countries, and fresh produce from the EU, had been under embargo since 2 June, due to the risk of the deadly E.coli bacteria in Germany. An agreement of principle on lifting the Russian embargo was reached at the EU-Russia summit on 10 June, prior to an implementing agreement last week based on the presentation of laboratory certificates attesting to the origin of the vegetables and guaranteeing their risk-free status. The Russian health authorities said on Tuesday, moreover, that Spain, Poland, Lithuania, Denmark and the Czech Republic are on a waiting list for clearance to export vegetables to the Russian market. Germany, where the outbreak occurred, will have to wait. (E.H./transl.jl)
