Brussels, 06/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 6 June, the Health Council adopted conclusions which take stock of progress made since the adoption of the European Pact for mental health and well-being in 2008. “We hope that these conclusions will contribute to giving mental health and well-being a bigger place in member states' health policies, so that more effective measures are taken”, said Hungarian Minister of National Resources Miklós Réthelyi. Member states and the Commission are called on maintain their commitment to treatment and prevention in this area and to put in place a joint action under the EU Public Health Programme 2008-2013 providing a platform for member states to exchange views and to cooperate. The Commission is called on to present a report on the outcomes of the joint action and to consider possible future policy action as a follow-up to the Pact. Member states are called on to make mental health and well-being a priority of their health policies and to develop strategies and/or action plans on mental health. (I.L./transl.rt)
