17/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Progress towards conclusion of air agreement with Georgia. On Tuesday 17 May, the Council of the EU called for the assent of the European Parliament (EP) needed for conclusion of an air agreement on the creation of common airspace between the EU and Georgia. The agreement, which was initialled in March 2010 by representatives of the European Commission and of Georgia, will bring Georgian civil aviation into the common air market which, in addition to the EU member states, contains the countries of the Western Balkans (see EUROPE 10092). Two further decisions taken by the Council on Tuesday relate to a horizontal air agreement which the EU could conclude with Cape Verde, aligning the bilateral agreements between Cape Verde and some EU member states with European law, and to a Euro-Mediterranean agreement on air services between the EU and Jordan. In both cases, the Council decisions require the assent of the EP. (A.By./transl.rt)
